Advance Program

What is the Advance Program?

Advance is a Victorian Program for Youth Development.  The Government believes that all young people should have the opportunity to benefit from, and contribute to, a full range of social, educational and cultural activities.

Advance is a partnership between the Government, schools and community organisations.  The program provides young people with opportunities to build their strengths and capacities by working with local community organisations.
The ADVANCE program has been designed to promote:

  • Teamwork
  • Community service leadership
  • Individual responsibility
  • Self discipline
  • Skill development
  • Confidence

Schools work with a community service provider in delivering the program. At Brauer College we work with the Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club and Port Fairy Surf Life Saving Club, and our students have become members of these organisations.  Over 12 months students undertake a variety of opportunities.

  • Surf Bronze Medallion
  • Volunteer Surf Patrol with Warrnambool or Port Fairy Surf Lifesaving Clubs
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Surf Safety programs with local primary schools
  • Other activities that arise involving leadership opportunities

Students achieving this level of achievement should be justifiably proud of their qualification as very few in the community have this award. It requires a committed and determined approach to learn these new skills and develop and maintain sufficient fitness to be able to deliver in the event of an emergency.
