No. Fees are not refundable. Upon enrolment, students are expected to remain in the Academy for the school year.

Do I have to pay the entire amount upfront?

You do not have to pay the entire amount up front however we ask for a non-refundable $50.00 deposit at the time of enrolment. This will secure you place in the Music Academy and will be deducted from your fees.

We have 2 payment options available to you:

  • Upfront payment of all fees
  • A payment plan (by approval through the Business Manager)

Please note that lessons will not commence until either the fees are paid upfront or a payment plan has been approved by the business manager.

What happens if I don’t pay my Music Academy fees?

If fees are not paid and you have not contacted Brauer College, your child will be withdrawn from the Music Academy and we will make contact with you. Re-enrolment occurs upon fee payment.

You will receive reminder emails through the year if your fees are not paid.

How do I enrol my child?

  • Upon completion of the enrolment form, take it to the Front Office and let the staff there know which payment option you will be undertaking.
  • Upon receiving the completed enrolment form and payment information, your school account will be charged for the lessons and hire (where applicable).
  • The enrolment form and payment option are then sent to the Music Department by the front office, at which time your child will be added to the relevant instrumental timetable.
  • The Head of Music will contact you via email once your child has been enrolled.

Please note: all payments are made at the front office. No money should come to the Music Department.

How many students will be in the group lesson?

There will be 2-3 students in each group lesson at the instrumental tutors discretion.

How long are the instrumental lessons?

Instrumental lessons are half a school period in length. Lessons for VCE Music Performance students are a full period in length.

Will the lessons occur at the same time every week?

  • We work on a rotational timetable with instrumental lessons. This means that students will be taken out of a different class every week for their lesson where possible.
  • If there is a particular subject area that you would prefer your child did not miss out on, please let us know and we will attempt to accomodate this request.
  • Some tutors offer before school, recess, lunch and after school lesson times. Please note that VCE Music Performance students have first priority over these times if they are offered by the tutor.
  • This option is not offered by all tutors as we also run an ensemble program with lunch time, before and after school rehearsals which involves the majority of our tutors.

Can we hire instruments?

Yes. We offer a large number of instruments for hire. However, we do not offer hire on:

  • Piano/keyboard

Will the tutor collect students for their lessons?

It is the students responsibility to leave class and attend lessons. Lesson times will show up on each students Compass schedule. Students must check Compass to be aware of their lesson time.

What happens if a student forgets to attend their lesson?

If a student forgets their lesson, the tutor will collect them if they are able to. A scenario where the tutor is unable to collect a student is as follows:

  • 3 students are enrolled in a group lesson and 2 students have arrived on time.
  • 1 student has forgotten.
  • The tutor is unable to leave the other two students and collect the third.

If a student forgets their lesson 3 weeks in a row, a phone call will be made home to work out a plan for the students to remember their lessons.

What happens if my child enrols and doesn’t like the instrument?

If this occurs, we take the following approach:

  • We encourage students to continue with a the instrument for at least 1 semester to master the basic skills
  • After this time, if they are not satisfied with their choice, we discuss moving to another instrument
  • If the student still wants to discontinue at this point, a discontinuation form needs to be filled in and returned with their hire instrument (where applicable) to the Music Department

Do you have any school ensembles and are Music Academy students required to participate?

We have a number of school ensembles for students to participate in and all students enrolled in the Music Academy are expected to participate in a minimum of one school ensemble.

Students who do not regularly participate in a school ensemble are not eligible for lessons within the Music Academy.

Ensembles rehearse and perform regularly and are invaluable to the students overall development as a well rounded musician.

In 2020, the following ensembles will be running:

  • Junior Concert Band
  • Intermediate Concert Band
  • Jazz Ensemble
  • Rock Band
